Ever wonder what it would be like to be a member of the RPHS Choir Program?
These videos will give you a glimpse of what you can expect.

FAQ:

If I've never been in choir before, can I join now?
Absolutely! We have a place in choir for everyone and will teach you all the skills you need to know to be successful.

Which choir should I sign-up for?
You will want to choose Choir I on your course selection sheet if it will be your first year in high school choir. You would choose Choir II for your second year, and so on. These designations have no bearing on which choir you will be placed in, they merely serve as a way for the counselors to put you into my grade book. For more information on the different choirs that are offered at Ridge Point, click here.

Is it possible to be in choir and another extracurricular activity?
Students in the Ridge Point Choir Program are involved in just about every possible activity on campus. Choir students are also Varsity football players, Royals, athletic trainers, band and orchestra members, AP students, and the list goes on! If you do a good job with keeping your calendar updated, you will have no trouble participating in choir and another extracurricular activity.

Can I be in choir if I haven't chosen an Arts & Humanities endorsement?
Absolutely. It is possible to take choir all four years of high school and still have a non-Arts & Humanities endorsement. If you want more information on how to make it work for you, we would be happy to sit down and help you map out your schedule.

Does the choir take trips?
We take an out-of-state trip every three years, and in state trips the other years.

How much after-school practice is required?
Some, but not very much. There are only two mandatory rehearsals held outside of school hours in the fall semester, and those are dress rehearsals for our fall and winter concerts. There may be a few more required rehearsals in the spring as we get ready for our UIL competition, but you will find that choir requires significantly fewer after-school practices than most other extra-curricular activities.

What if I don't know how to read music?
Don't you worry, we will teach you!

Do you have to be a good singer to join choir?
If you enjoy singing, then choir is for you. We will give you the foundation so that it can be an even more enjoyable hobby.

What type of music will we sing?
We will sing everything from rock to Bach! Each choir will perform a wide variety of styles throughout the year including, but not limited to: pop, a cappella, classical, jazz, and Broadway.

Which choir will I be in?
Anyone can join the beginning men or women's choir without an audition. If you would like to be in a more advanced group, we assess your: vocal ability, music reading skills, prior experience, grades in other courses, attitude, and work ethic.

I have more questions, who should I contact?
Ms. Berner & Mr. Johnson would be happy to answer any and all questions you might have about the Ridge Point Choir Program.
